The active ingredient in both is polyethylene glycol 400 0.25%, a lubricant, combined with castor oil and sodium hyaluronate. The bottle is shaken before use and one or two drops are instilled in the affected eye as needed. Standard Formula Carries PEG 40 hydrogenated castor oil and is preserved with sodium chlorite. Preservative Free Carries polyoxyl-40 hydrogenated castor oil and no preservative. Contact lenses are removed first, and are put back in about 10 to 15 minutes after the drops are applied.
