A vision plan is a yearly eye care budget.

Most vision plans help pay for a routine eye exam plus glasses or contacts, often with a copay and an allowance for frames or lenses. Exact amounts and how often you can use them depend on your employer or plan.

Common vision plans you may have.

Plan names can hide behind a health insurer’s card, so read the vision card.

VSP

A national vision plan that works with many independent eye doctors.

EyeMed

Also runs vision networks for some Aetna, Cigna and Humana plans.

Davis Vision

A Versant Health plan; Superior Vision is its sister brand.

Spectera

Handles vision plans for UnitedHealthcare members.

Avesis

Often seen with Medicaid and Medicare Advantage health plans.

Other plans

Smaller plans run their own networks; check your card.

Some plans include online retailers. Check your plan’s list of in-network options.

My card says Aetna or Cigna. Who runs my vision plan?
